Privacy policy

You can use every page, calculator and worksheet without an account. The site uses Google Analytics to understand how pages are used; this page explains what that means and how to opt out.

Who we are

PythagoreanTheorem.net is a free educational website about the Pythagorean theorem, edited by the PythagoreanTheorem.net team. For any question about this policy, write to contact@pythagoreantheorem.net.

Information you give us

The site has no user accounts, sign-up forms, comments or newsletter, so it never asks for your name or other contact details. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write, and we use it only to reply.

Calculators, quizzes and worksheets

All interactive tools run as small scripts inside your browser: the calculations happen on your device. Some tools copy your inputs into the page address (for example ?a=3&b=4) so that you can bookmark or share a calculation. Because our analytics service records the addresses of pages viewed, those numbers can appear in our visit statistics. They are not linked to your name or identity.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and learn which pages and tools are useful so we can improve them. When you view a page, Google receives technical information such as the page address, the referring page, your browser and device type, screen size, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and an identifier stored in a cookie (for example _ga) that lets repeat visits be counted. We see this information only as aggregated reports.

Google processes this data under its own terms; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services and the Google privacy policy.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works fully without them.
  • Install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Use a browser or extension that blocks tracking scripts. Every page, calculator and worksheet still works.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data is held about you, or to ask for it to be deleted. Because we do not hold personal profiles ourselves, such requests about analytics data are usually best directed to Google, but you can always contact us and we will help.

Server logs

Pages are delivered by a hosting provider whose servers may automatically record technical information for each request — such as the IP address, browser type, page requested and time — to operate the service, keep it secure and prevent abuse.

Children

Much of the site is written for students. It does not ask anyone, of any age, for personal information, and it shows no advertising. The analytics described above are used only to produce aggregate statistics about how the site is used.

Changes to this policy

If the way the site handles data changes, this page will be updated, and the date at the top will show when it was last revised.
